Job Description:

In support or Shell’s purpose to Power Progress together by providing more and cleaner energy solutions, Shell and NAM are working towards being the most competitive performer and trusted partner today with the aim of being the cleanest material gas supplier in by 2030. To do this, we are looking to both develop the gas opportunities our customers need today and to identify and develop the Energy Transition projects that our infrastructure offers (specifically Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS), electrification and Hydrogen) to support us on our journey to Net Zero.

This role will enable the individual to deepen their commercial experience on the front line in this operated upstream asset. You will be externally focused and be expected to manage the commitments with our partners and customers to maintain our License to Operate and secondly to deliver the new projects the UK and Netherlands required for more gas and cleaner energy as NAM and ONEgas’s contribution to Net Zero.

Where you fit in?

Your role of Senior Commercial Advisor sits within the Commercial Team. This team serves the operated and non-operated onshore and offshore gas production Assets in both the UK and NL. The UK and NL offshore assets are referred to as ‘ONEGas’.

The ONEgas Asset is one of the largest producers of natural gas in the Southern North Sea sector and operates more than 40 gas production platforms, 90 fields and 2 onshore gas treatment terminals (Bacton and Den Helder). The onshore assets include minor onshore oil and gas fields, 2 Underground Gas Storage systems and the Groningen gas field.

In the UK, the ONEGas assets are owned by Shell UK (typically about 50+%). The Dutch Assets are owned by NAM (a Shell and Exxon joint venture). There are more than 10 venture partners across the asset portfolio with Shell equity ranging from 25% to 100%.

Reporting directly to the NAM & OneGas Head of Commercial, the successful applicant will have responsibility for identifying, maturing, negotiating, and delivering several commercial opportunities whilst managing our existing commitments to maintain our License to Operate.

Other than that, the successful applicant will also be expected to

Work closely with the wider team in the NAM and ONEgas Assets and within the wider Shell organization including Trading and our Energy Transition teams.

Actively involved in the implementation of Agile, and as such may also work on NAM’s onshore commercial opportunities.

What’s the role?

The focus of this position as Senior Commercial Advisor will be on managing existing contracts, delivering new contracts and deals, executing the contractual obligations, and providing commercial advice to the asset teams. In this role you will work closely Exploration, Development, Finance, Operations, Front End Engineering, Legal, Tax, Health, Safety & Environment, Renewables and New Energies to protect and deliver future value through managing commercial contracts, deals, projects, and relationships.

The commercial activities include:

Commercial strategy development

Contract development and (re)negotiations

Contract management and resolution of claims and disputes

Developing and managing infrastructure access and contracts,

Negotiation CCS agreements and developing hydrogen opportunities

Managing decommissioning liabilities and securities

Managing existing and establishing new joint venture partner, customer and key stakeholders including the regulatory bodies.

Implementing the ‘Agile Ways of Working’ in commercial, in conjunction with other departments in NAM & ONEGas.

Our assets produce gas, and we provide several transport and processing services to a range of other producers. The commercial team also supports the acquisition/ divestment and abandonment activities for NAM & ONEGas.

We focus on both the protection and enhancement of value associated with our existing agreements and infrastructure, and the identification of new opportunities including new gas, portfolio management and energy transitions opportunities.

Although the role is based in the Netherlands, regular travel to the UK to visit customers, stake holders, venture partners and Asset teams is expected.

NAM & ONEGas have adopted the Agile Ways of Working. Agile has helped the transformation of a wide range of companies and industries, and NAM & ONEGas are now pioneering Agile in the Energy Industry. The transformation to Agile is underway and has been successfully implemented in the development and operations teams. Recognizing the value that Agile has already delivered, it is currently under implementation in the commercial team.  

What we need from you?

We are seeking candidates, preferably, with experience in upstream commercial, economics, procurement, legal or business management and technical/operational roles who are looking for the opportunity and challenge to develop their commercial skills in an external facing role.

Candidates who are willing to build on their commercial acumen and relationship skills to drive NAM & ONEgas performance forward in an uncertain and challenging environment.
